Search Is On for a New Boss

NEW YORK — Major League Baseball’s executive council hired the firm of Heidrick & Struggles to conduct its search for a commissioner.
It’s one of the first signs of baseball’s attempt to find a permanent commissioner to replace Acting Commissioner Bud Selig, the Milwaukee Brewers’ owner who has held the position since Sept. 9, 1992.
The New York-based search firm was involved in the NFL’s 1989 search for a commissioner, which resulted in the hiring of Paul Tagliabue.
“We will put every resource at our command into our search both inside and outside baseball,” said Ted Jadick, a Heidrick & Struggles partner.
Any candidate would require a three-quarters vote from the 13-member executive council to become commissioner.
