Canyon to Forfeit Three Softball Games

Canyon’s softball program will forfeit three nonleague victories from its tournament earlier this season because it used an ineligible player, school officials said.

The unidentified player was ineligible during the third quarter grading period, but had improved her grades to be eligible for the fourth. However, she played during spring break before the district-wide eligibility date.

“She had the right grades, but had not reached the date of eligibility,” Principal Ralph Jameson said Wednesday. “We jumped the gun a little bit on that. Of the five games, we won three. We’re in the process of notifying the three schools.”

Those schools are Katella, Norco and Orange.

Canyon’s adjusted record is 16-11-1.

The free match will be played at the tennis courts at the Oakwood North Apartments in Newport Beach, across the street from Newport Harbor High.

Wiere is the tennis director at Oakwood; he said Braverman will play at Wimbledon and the French Open this summer before turning professional. Both are from Newport Beach.
