Magnitude 4.4 Quake Jolts Remote Area

A magnitude 4.4 earthquake took place Tuesday in the Southern Sierra 13 miles southeast of Lake Isabella, the U.S. Geological Survey reported. No damage or injuries were reported in the 12:12 p.m. temblor in the isolated region in Kern County about 100 miles north of Los Angeles. Scientists said it was not an aftershock of any other quake.
