My wife, Jane, and I celebrated our 24th wedding anniversary at a little inn on the Mendocino coast. At sunset, we drank a bottle of 1979 vintage Krug Champagne. It was gorgeous. Great wines stand alone, but when you match them with good friends and wonderful food or wonderful settings, they come together to become much more than any one of the parts.
