Simonton Is First in Five Events

Rita Simonton won five events in the women’s 75-79 age group at the Southern Pacific Masters Short Course Yards Championships Saturday at the Heritage Park Aquatics Complex in Irvine.
Simonton, of the Golden West Aquatic Club, won the 50-yard freestyle (42.69), 100 freestyle (1:36.69), 1,000 freestyle (30:46.92), 50 breaststroke (55.79) and 200 breaststroke (4:21.53).
In the women’s 85-89 group, Madeleine Miller of the Coast Masters won the 50 freestyle (1:10.62), 100 freestyle (2:37.05) and 200 backstroke (5:51.80).
Laurel Hooper of Irvine Novaquatics won five events in the women’s 19-24 division. She won the 500 freestyle (5:22.54), 1,000 freestyle (10:56.44), 200 backstroke (2:23.38), the 200 breaststroke (2:51.03) and 200 individual medley (2:24.31).
In the women’s 60-64 division, the Coast Masters’ Margo Bouer won the 50 freestyle (41.99), the 100 freestyle (1:42.60) and 200 backstroke (4:07.82).
The Coast Masters’ Woodrow Bowersock won five events in the men’s 80-84 group. He won the 50 freestyle (33.34), 100 freestyle (1:18.15), 500 freestyle (10:17.56), 1,000 freestyle (20:37.51) and 50 breaststroke (59.58).
In the men’s 55-59 group, the Novaquatics’ Patrick Schlup won the 50 breaststroke (36.72) and 200 breaststroke (2:50.55).
The Novaquatics’ Jeffrey Crosson won 500 freestyle (5:02.74) and 1,000 freestyle (10:31.53) in the men’s 35-39 group.
