Quinn Takes First at Diving Classic

Robbie Quinn of Laguna Hills won the boys’ 11-dive event with a score of 530.05 at the Edison Diving Classic Saturday at Edison High.
Edison’s Steven Lippincott placed second.
Orange County’s top varsity divers competed in the classic to earn points for their school teams and qualify for the league and Southern Section championships, which will be in May.
In the girls’ 11-dive event, Kellie Brennan scored a big victory for Edison. Brennan, who is coming off a recent back injury, edged Dana Hills’ Michelle Brown by two points.
The Southern Section diving season will conclude May 15-17, with the league and division championships at Irvine Aquatics Center in Irvine.
In Sunset League baseball:
Fountain Valley 21, Edison 4--Nick Stavale doubled and homered twice, his sixth and seventh, and drove in seven runs for 10th-ranked Fountain Valley (14-8, 8-3), which had eight extra-base hits and 18 hits in all against Edison (3-8 in league).
In nonleague boys’ swimming:
Santa Margarita 119, Mater Dei 36--Phillipe Demers and Frank Uxa each qualified for the Southern Section meet in the breaststroke.
Demers won the 500 freestyle (5:30.01) and the 100 breaststroke (1:00.23) and Uxa won the 200 freestyle (2:02.20).
In nonleague girls’ swimming:
Santa Margarita 96, Mater Dei 74--Siobhan Herlihy won the 200 freestyle (2:03.19) and the 500 freestyle (5:31.26) to lead Santa Margarita.
