The ongoing barrage of negative criticism of the Belmont Learning Center, now dubbed the “Taj Mahal,” is more than disturbing to those of us who have spent decades teaching in inferior, ill-equipped and even hazardous facilities.
Had this project been proposed for another venue--perhaps the San Fernando Valley--it would probably be considered inadequate. The ignorance reflected in this attitude demonstrates the judgment that these kids are less deserving than others.
