Deputy Fatally Shoots 100-Pound Rottweiler That Bit Man

A 100-pound Rottweiler that bit a man inside his house and held off authorities for two hours despite being squirted with pepper spray, was shot and killed by a sheriff’s deputy Saturday in Thousand Oaks.

At about 11 a.m., 40-year-old Arillano Rulas of Thousand Oaks called authorities to report the dog had bitten his right arm, Sheriff’s Sgt. Pat Buckley said.

Rulas told authorities he was cooking breakfast in the 2400 block of Hillcrest Drive when the dog entered through an open door.

Authorities arrived to find the dog had trapped Rulas inside the house. Deputies sprayed the dog with the chemical and it eventually ran outside and went under a car.

Ventura County Fire Department personnel were able to get to Rulas and take him to a waiting ambulance. “The man had suffered a significant dog bite, almost a tear, and was in severe pain,” said Robert Snyder, field operation supervisor for MedTrans Ambulance.

Paramedics transported Rulas to Columbia Los Robles Hospital at 11:38 a.m. He was treated for four puncture wounds and released.
