Wise Strikes Out 12, Fullerton Edges Cal Poly San Luis Obispo

Matt Wise struck out 12 to pick up his fifth victory of the season as Cal State Fullerton defeated San Luis Obispo, 6-5, in Big West Conference baseball Friday at San Luis Obispo.
Wise (5-6) gave up four hits and two earned runs in the effort. Michael Greenlee came in the seventh inning and picked up his seventh save for the Titans.
Mike Lamb had two doubles and two runs scored for the Titans (31-19, 18-7). San Luis Obispo dropped to 32-17, 11-14.
In another Big West Conference game:
Long Beach State 8, UC Santa Barbara 7--Toby Sanchez had two doubles and two RBIs for Long Beach State (32-18, 21-4). J.J. Newkirk had a double and two runs scored for the 49ers.
In Golden State Athletic Conference baseball:
Concordia 7-2, Cal Baptist 4-4--Scott Payne was three for four with a double and an RBI for Cal Baptist (32-12, 19-5), which held on to win the nightcap and the conference title.
Concordia (21-26, 7-17) threatened in the bottom of the sixth with the bases loaded and one out, but A.J. Applefield hit into a double play to end the inning.
In the opener, Ernie Silva was four for four with two doubles and three RBIs for Concordia. Silva was six for seven on the day.
Southern California College 9-4, Azusa Pacific 2-9--Mike Boyle’s three-run home run capped a seven-run sixth inning as Azusa Pacific rallied to win the second game and second place in the conference. The Cougars (34-14, 17-7) will host the NAIA Far West Sectional Tournament next week.
In the first game, SCC pitcher Bryce Primm went 8 1/3 innings, giving up four hits and Matt Newton had four hits for the Vanguards (32-15, 15-9).
Primm improved his record to 8-3.
The SCC victory set up the second game as a showdown for which team would host the four-team sectional tournament. The Vanguards took a 4-2 lead into the bottom of the sixth inning before Azusa Pacific sent 11 batters to the plate, taking a 9-4 lead.
Terrik Clark had two hits for SCC in the second game.
In the Big West Conference golf championships:
UC Irvine tied for fourth--The Anteaters are tied with UC Santa Barbara with a team score of 605, 29-over par on the first of two days of competition. Alan Sue and Mike Lawrence each shot 150 for two rounds at Dayton Valley Country Club in Dayton, Nev., for the Anteaters.
In Big West Conference softball:
CS Fullerton 6-2, UC Santa Barbara 1-1--Julie Williams hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the first inning of the first game and CS Fullerton (29-23) went on to sweep a doubleheader from UC Santa Barbara.
