High Desert Stars Square Off

Tony Walker of Antelope Valley High, the Golden League player of the year and Times’ Valley defensive player of the year, will be one of several top players from the desert region to play in the first High Desert All-Star football game June 27 at Palmdale High.
Walker will lead the South, which will be coached by Antelope Valley’s Brent Newcomb.
The North, coached by Highland’s Lin Parker, includes five players who have Division I scholarships--Quartz Hill’s Jacob Waasdorp (California), Highland’s Will Demps (San Diego State) and Malachi Keddington (Northern Arizona) and Palmdale’s Vincent Sandoval (Oregon State) and Malosi Leonard (Arizona).
Water Polo
Teams from the Harvard-Westlake Water Polo Foundation and the La Canada Water Polo Foundation will meet Sunday at 5 p.m. in the Los Angeles County Water Polo Cup championship game at Harvard-Westlake.
Volleyball
Many of the best boys’ volleyball teams will be competing today in the Redondo-Mira Costa Classic, a 40-team tournament at Redondo and Mira Costa highs.
Several teams from the region will participate, including Royal, the top-ranked team in Southern Section Division I, Canyon, Crespi, Glendale and Chatsworth. . . . Marianne Mull, a senior at Santa Clara High, will attend Cal Lutheran.
Soccer
Rusty Brooke, a senior midfielder at Apollo High in Glendale, Ariz., will attend The Master’s College.
