Brown Meets With 76ers

Philadelphia 76er President Pat Croce has met with Larry Brown about the team’s vacant coaching job--but that’s all Croce will say about his search.

Croce is in the unfamiliar role of dodging questions about who will be hired to replace coach Johnny Davis and general manager Brad Greenberg, both fired April 20.

He was forced into admitting to having met with Brown on Wednesday, when Brown resigned as coach of the Indiana Pacers, only because Brown announced he was heading to Philadelphia.

Brown met with Croce and Ed Snider, who runs the Comcast-Spectacor partnership that owns the 76ers, and Comcast executive Brian Roberts.

“We had a great meeting,” Croce said.

Croce also said that Kentucky Coach Rick Pitino was no longer a candidate for the job.

Dennis Rodman said he will give up his salary for an entire season if he doesn’t perform up to the value of his next contract.

“Before next season I am going to sign a $9-million or $10-million contract and tell the team, ‘If I’m not worth it, don’t pay me. If I don’t play up to that contract, keep the money,’ ” Rodman said in an interview published in the June issue of Playboy.

The interview was conducted when Rodman was serving an 11-game suspension for kicking a cameraman during a game Jan. 15.
