Duval Keeps Lead in Houston Open

David Duval shot a one-under-par 71 on Friday to take a one-stroke lead over David Ogrin and Australian Craig Parry after the second round of the Houston Open.

Duval, who opened with a 65 Thursday for a two-stroke advantage over Curtis Strange, lost a shot on his first hole with a bogey. He made nine consecutive pars before another bogey on the 11th hole, then recovered with birdies on three of the next four holes for an 8-under 136 total.

Fred Couples had his second consecutive 69 for a six-under 138, leaving him tied with Jerry Kelly, who had a 68. Phil Blackmar and Strange followed at 139, with Blackmar shooting a 71 and Strange a 72.

Parry, whose six-under 66 put him in contention, picked up where he left off a week ago when he won the Indonesian Open in Jakarta.

Gil Morgan shot a five-under-par 67 in windy conditions to take a one-stroke lead over Jay Sigel, Tom Shaw and Bob Charles after the first round of the Bruno’s Memorial Classic at Hoover, Ala.

Morgan, a seven-time PGA Tour winner, bogeyed the Nos. 3 and 4 in the Senior PGA event, but recovered with a birdie on the par-five fifth and an eagle on the par-four sixth, sinking an 81-yard sand wedge shot.

Isao Aoki and John Morgan opened with 69s on the Greystone Country Club course, while Gene Littler, Walt Morgan, Al Geiberger, Jim Colbert, John Schroeder and Bob Eastwood shot 70s.

Tammie Green kept up a torrid pace, shooting a five-under 67 to take a one-stroke lead over Kris Tschetter after two rounds of the LPGA’s Sprint Titleholders Championship in Daytona Beach, Fla.

Green dropped seven-foot par putt on the first hole and five more of similar distance for birdies.

Green was at 11-under 133. Tschetter was a stroke back after her second-consecutive 67.
