Canyons Comeback Sets Up Showdown

College of the Canyons overcame a 7-2 deficit in the second inning to beat Mission, 14-11, Thursday in a Western State Conference baseball game at Mission to set up a first-place showdown today.
Jesse Daggett and Luis Sanchez hit home runs for Canyons (30-13, 17-8 in conference play), which will play Bakersfield (28-15, 17-8) at 1 p.m. today in Valencia to decide the Southern Division championship.
Daggett had four runs batted in and Sanchez had three RBIs. Casey Canale and Robbie Rayfield each had four hits in the Cougars’ 18-hit attack.
Mission (20-23, 11-14) also had 18 hits.
Kirk Romo had four hits, including three doubles, and Jerry Delgado had three hits and three RBIs for the Free Spirit.
Pierce 10, Glendale 9--A three-run home run by Glendale’s Brett Niles in the ninth inning was not enough to keep Pierce (16-27, 8-17) from ending the Vaqueros’ WSC title hopes.
Harry Kenoi (6-4) pitched a complete game for the Brahmas, allowing 12 hits, striking out two and walking four.
Josh Morgan and Kirk Mayer each had three hits, one RBI and two runs for Pierce.
Glendale fell to 26-15, 15-10.
Ventura 21, Oxnard 5--A three-run home run by Jeff Chan keyed a six-run second inning for the Pirates, who overcame a 1-0 deficit in a WSC game at Ventura.
Chan had five RBIs and Andy Super was four for four with three RBIs for Ventura (22-17, 11-14).
Dustin Tubb (9-5) pitched a complete game, allowing nine hits, striking out three and walking two.
Carlos Morales had two hits for Oxnard (18-19, 11-14).
