Volunteering
When my husband retired from the Recreation and Parks Department and I from 30 years of college teaching, we decided to do volunteering. I have done thousands of hours of work in half a dozen fields during the past 25 years, and I have come to this conclusion: If I do a good job, I am taking the place of a worker trained for it; if I do it poorly, an expert, not an amateur, is needed for the service--it’s either unfair or unproductive.
Volunteerism is not the way to run an efficient and continuing social system.
