An Orange County Superior Court jury decided against awarding punitive damages to two plaintiffs who alleged that a Westminster cardiologist spread slanderous rumors about them.
Dana Nguyen of Stanton and Aimy and Tien Nguyen of Huntington Beach were awarded a total of $500,000 on April 10. Only Aimy and Tien Nguyen, who are married, were eligible for punitive damages.
“We’re still satisfied with the outcome of the case,” said Tom Vincent, an attorney for Aimy and Tien Nguyen. “We thought the jury did a good job.”
According to testimony, Dr. Khiem Nguyen started a practice in 1992 in a Westminster building owned by Tien Nguyen and managed by Aimy Nguyen. Dana Nguyen worked there as a medical assistant.
When Khiem Nguyen tried to seduce Aimy Nguyen, he spread rumors he was having an affair with her, according to testimony.
The doctor also allegedly sexually harassed Dana Nguyen, who later filed a suit against him.
Attorneys for Khiem Nguyen were not available for comment Thursday evening.
