Spotlight: Barbados Woos Silicon Valley Companies

Barbados government officials want Silicon Valley businesses to come to their island for more than just a week and a suntan. The Barbados Investment & Development Corp. is touring North America, trying to woo high-tech companies from cities nearly 10 times the island’s size, promising a tropical climate, a stable government and a reliable, low-cost work force. Several high-tech units of U.S. firms, including American Airlines, already have set up operations there, but the government is seeking others.
