Northridge Sweeps the Titans in Softball

Cal State Northridge won both games of a doubleheader atCal State Fullerton Wednesday to take sole possession of first place in Big West Conference softball.
Northridge overcame a two-run deficit in the second game to win, 4-3, and complete the sweep. In the first game, Northridge held off the Titans to win, 4-3, in 11 innings.
In the second game, Northridge scored four runs in the fifth. With two runners on and one out, Jennifer Parker’s double and a single by Elizabeth Sanches drove in the tying runs to make it 2-2.
Ashlie Hayes’ double down the left-field line drove in Parker to go ahead, 3-2, before Sanches was allowed to score on an illegal pitch one batter later.
Fullerton (27-23, 11-16 in Big West) scored in the bottom of the fifth on a double by Dara Marzolo, which chased starter Cheri Shinn. Tara Glaister returned to the circle and struck out Julie Williams on four pitches.
Cal State Northridge (33-17-2, 20-8) takes a one-game lead over Long Beach State with four games remaining.
In nonconference baseball:
Chapman 10, La Verne 3--Cale Shepherd hit a two-run double in the seventh to give Chapman the lead, 4-3, and the host Panthers (24-12) broke the game open with five runs in the eighth. Shepherd had four RBIs.
