Errors Get the Best of Luce, 10-7

LANCASTER — The pitching line JetHawk right-hander Rob Luce posted in Wednesday night’s 10-7 loss to the Bakersfield Blaze at the Hangar was misleading on two counts.
Neither the nine runs Luce allowed in 5 2/3 innings nor the zero earned runs he gave up were indicative of the way he pitched in losing his first game of the season.
Although three JetHawk errors led to a four-run third and a five-run sixth, Luce did not respond well after the mistakes. He gave up 10 hits.
The JetHawks trailed, 4-3, in the sixth, when third baseman Carlos Villalobos made a two-out throwing error. Luce (4-1) then gave up four consecutive hits and five runs, digging the JetHawks into a 9-3 hole.
The blow that knocked Luce out of the game was a two-run double by outfielder Mike Glendenning, formerly of Crespi High and Pierce College. Glendenning has six runs batted in in the first two games of the three-game series.
The JetHawks (13-14), who had made dramatic late-inning comebacks to win twice in the previous four days, got the crowd of 3,237 excited again by bringing the potential winning run to the plate in the ninth.
Trailing, 10-7, the JetHawks loaded the bases in the ninth on three walks, but Tarrik Brock lined out to center field to end the game.
Tonight’s game: Bakersfield (Ryan Jensen, 0-0, 0.00) vs. JetHawks (Jeff Farnsworth, 0-0, 3.00), 7:15.
