Anita B. Rangell; Expert on 19th and 20th Century Art

Anita Buchwald Rangell, 81, an expert on 19th and 20th century art. Born in Brooklyn, Rangell studied English literature and the humanities at Brooklyn College. Throughout her 58-year marriage to psychoanalyst Leo Rangell, she assisted him in his world travels and organizing international conferences on psychoanalysis. Her interest in art led her to teach art appreciation to schoolchildren. For more than 20 years, she was a docent at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and was a docent at the Hammer Museum from its opening in 1990. She was an expert on the caricaturist Honore Daumier and on the Codex Hammer of Leonardo da Vinci. She was a guest lecturer on Daumier in lithography classes at UC Santa Cruz. On Sunday in Los Angeles of brain cancer.
