House Passes Bill Easing Adoption

In a strong display of support for the plight of kids in foster care, the House passed a bill that aims to shorten the time they wait for permanent homes. About half a million children are in the system, sponsors have said. The bill, also sponsored by Rep. Dave Camp (R-Mich.), would no longer require states to make every “reasonable effort” to reunite children with their families in cases including abandonment, torture or abuse.
