Qualcomm to Sell Digital Phones to China

Qualcomm Inc. said it has signed a four-year contract worth more than $300 million to sell digital phones to an affiliate of Telecom Great Wall Development Co. of Beijing. The deal is one of the largest international sales of such digital subscriber equipment to date, Qualcomm said. Telecom Great Wall is expected to take delivery of Qualcomm’s new multiple access digital phones starting in the second half of 1997. Telecom Great Wall is expected to rapidly deploy commercial service to cities throughout China, it said. Qualcomm, based in San Diego, makes, licenses and operates advanced communications systems and products based on digital wireless technologies. Qualcomm shares rose $1.50 to close at $46.75 on Nasdaq.
