Clubland denizens are well aware that truth is better than fiction, but this one takes the cake. Joey Buttafuoco--you know, the mechanic-turned-actor/opportunist--has a new gig. The beefy ex-Long Islander manages the upstairs bar on Fridays and Saturdays at the Rainbow Bar & Grill, which celebrated its 25th anniversary Tuesday night.
Among the 600 West Hollywood revelers were Ozzy Osbourne, the Scorpions and David Lee Roth, a regular of the Sunset Strip nightclub. But back to Buttafuoco for a minute. “No one who comes in can believe it’s him,” says Mike Murphy, the Rainbow’s assistant daytime manager. “He does a good job.” . . .
DJ and promoter Jimi Jam called to inform us that First Degree, a popular hip-hop club last seen at the Garage in Silver Lake, has found a new and improved home at Virgilios (2611 S. La Cienega Ave. in L.A.). “The space is way bigger and it feels like a casino,” Jam says. He’s betting on it. . . .
Promoter Geoffrey Loren, who was also last seen at the Garage’s “Ultra Saturdays” dance-fest, wants you to know he’s “going the extra mile” for his new club, Solid Gold, which kicked off last week at Woody’s in Silver Lake (2810 Hyperion Ave.). Solid Gold offers DJ Nazario spinning deep house and disco and Loren plans to keep the look fresh by changing the decor each Saturday “aiming for a decadent ‘70s Studio 54 vibe.” . . .
Pedro’s Bar & Grill in Los Feliz is hosting a cool new underground Tuesday night promotion called “Chocolate Bar.” . . . Ozomatli fanatics will have to cut across town to the Dragonfly in Hollywood starting tonight--after exploding at the Opium Den every Thursday, the band now begins a new Thursday night run at the ‘Fly, which has a larger capacity than the Den though not a much bigger stage. How Ozo’s 12 members do it each week still amazes. . . .
Goldfingers has a hot new Monday night club called “Madame Kitty’s Seahorse Club,” a hearkening back to a 1920s-style speak-easy. The Hollywood lounge has invited the Stardust Caravan Trio to perform weekly, while Kitty Moonshine (a.k.a. Miss Kelley, the Viper Room’s publicist) is the evening’s deejay. . . . Those interested in kickin’ it, disco style, might enjoy Saturday night’s special House of Blues show, as the original bad boys of boogie, the Boogie Knights, get down, get down, get down, get down.
