Seventh-seeded Taylor Dent of Newport Beach lost to third-seeded Brian Vahaly of Atlanta, a member of the USTA national team, 7-6 (7-3), 6-1, in the semifinals of the boys’ 18 division of Easter Bowl Junior Tennis Tournament Thursday in Miami.
“The national players, like Taylor Dent, aren’t as familiar with my game,” Vahaly said. “It’s probably one of the best matches I’ve ever played against one of the best players I’ve ever played. Taylor wasn’t used to my style and my style was really on. I brought him up to net and I was able to pass him.”
On Wednesday, Irvine’s David Lingman lost to Amorico Simone of Delray Beach, Fla., 6-2, 6-1, in the quarterfinals of the boys’ 16 division.
