Fullerton Beats San Jose State in Tennis

Debbie Vonusa rallied from a one-set deficit to defeat Mary Tourlotte, 2-6, 6-4, 6-0, to help Cal State Fullerton to a 7-2 victory over San Jose State Thursday at Fullerton.
The Titans swept in doubles as their No. 1 doubles team of Vonusa and Jennifer Canfield won, 8-4. The Titans improved to 5-13.
In another nonconference women’s tennis match:
UC Irvine 8, Cal State Bakersfield 1--Liz Yim won, 6-0, 6-2, to help Irvine (7-10) snap a five-match losing streak. In doubles, Yim and Patty Villaroman defeated Barbara Valkova and Star Connolly, 9-7. Villaroman won her singles match against Connolly, 6-2, 6-1.
In the first round of the UCI/Marriott men’s tennis classic:
UC Irvine 7, Santa Clara 0--Steve Tallakson, ranked No. 90 nationally, beat Santa Clara’s Jeremy Testwuide, 6-2, 6-4, in No. 1 singles.
In the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate Golf tournament:
UC Irvine ties Long Beach State--Mike Lawrence and Shawn Morley each shot a three-round 225, as the Anteaters finished tied for 15th with Long Beach State.
Fresno State won the tournament with a team score of 869, at Sandpiper Golf Course in Goleta. Irvine and Long Beach each finished with a score of 905. San Jose State’s Justin Russo was medalist at six-under-par 210.
In nonconference softball:
Cal State Fullerton 11-8, Tennessee 8-4--Donna Coombes (5-5) gave up one earned run on 10 hits for Fullerton (12-12). Kate Degener was two for four with four RBIs and a run scored for the Titans.
