In keeping with the season, a three-on-three version of March Madness hits Cal State Northridge this weekend.
Competition in the 1997 Nike Hoop-It-Up basketball tournament runs Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on outdoor half-courts set up on the campus parking lots.
The event will include approximately 500 four-person teams of men, women and children, with players aged 8 and up competing in divisions ranging from Top Gun for the highest level to a Couch Potato division. Top Gun Division winners advance to regional competition.
The Hoop-It-Up competition at Northridge is the third stop of the event’s 1997 U.S. tour, which includes stops in 45 cities throughout the country. The event already has taken place in Dallas, and in Jacksonville. The last stop will be in Aspen, Colo., in October.
The event will feature shooting and dunking contests.
Spectator admission is free.
