Voter Verification

Whatever happened to moral values and accountability? It seems that whenever someone breaks a rule or makes a judgment error, calling it a mistake makes the action acceptable. The latest group to make this claim is Hermandad Mexicana Nacional, responsible for illegally registering voters in Orange County (March 16). This is an organization charged with teaching citizenship and responsibility to immigrants. Their only mistake is being caught. And now, their supporters and attorneys suggest that the government doesn’t have the right to determine how widespread these transgressions were.
If we lose our freedoms and our voice, it will be because we eliminated accountability and ethical behavior from our lexicon and substituted rationalization and power politics as operative principles. How can we expect future citizens to be responsible if our leaders demonstrate that responsibility is not in our vocabulary?
