The Reasons Almost Outnumber the Fans

Why was the Kings’ 30-year reunion game Thursday an attendance fiasco?
1. The Kings’ base attendance before Gretzky’s arrival was 9,000. Since the attendance at Thursday’s game was 9,597, that’s who attended.
2. The Kings’ lousy play and inability to make the playoffs for the fourth consecutive year kept current fans away.
3. This is now “Ducks” town.
4. The Ducks have two superstars, the Kings have none. L.A. is a superstar town. Look at the Dodgers vs. the Angels. Laker fans stayed away when Kareem and Magic left. Why do you think Shaq is here?
5. UCLA and March Madness.
However, regardless of all of the above, trading Gretzky was one of the biggest sports blunders of all time and management still doesn’t get it.
