Gas Station Site Will Become Park

A citizens group has completed its purchase of an 8,500-square-foot parcel of land across from City Hall that will be turned into a park.
The City Council praised Corona del Mar resident Jim Thompson for leading the drive that raised $230,000 to purchase a former gas station site.
Thompson said he organized the fund drive because he felt a park would beautify the area known as the gateway to the Balboa Peninsula. The council agreed and added $70,000 of city funds to meet the purchase price of $300,000.
City officials said the park should be completed later this year.
