New York Gov. George E. Pataki named a six-member commission Thursday, including “Boys of Summer” author Roger Kahn, to explore the possibility of luring the Dodgers back to Brooklyn.
The panel will focus on issues of financing and finding a site for a new stadium in addition to all the legal and technical issues involving the possible return of the team, Pataki said.
“It is fitting that in the 50th anniversary year of the breaking of baseball’s color barrier by Jackie Robinson and the Brooklyn Dodgers, we are embarking on this effort to bring the Dodgers back home,” he added.
Other members of the panel are Hugh L. Carey, who has served as governor and Congressman from Brooklyn; Robert Catell, chief executive officer of the Brooklyn Union Gas Co.; Frank Macchiarola, president of St. Francis College; Bruce Ratner, a developer, and Rafael Esparra, a professor at New York City Technical College.
