Compton’s Game at Ventura Goes on as Scheduled Saturday

Ned Mircetic, Ventura College women’s basketball coach, said Thursday that his team’s Southern California Regional game against Compton will be played Saturday at 7 p.m. at Ventura.
There had been a possibility that Compton would not be allowed to continue playing in the regional because it was sanctioned by the South Coast Conference for alleged recruiting violations.
Compton (24-7), which already played two regional games, obtained a restraining order from Los Angeles Superior Court and a hearing was set for today.
But Mircetic said he was told Thursday that the California Community College Commission on Athletics, which governs junior college sports in the state, decided to settle the dispute after the season.
Joanne Fortunato, California community college commissioner of athletics, did not return a call to The Times.
Ventura (32-1) is California’s top-ranked team and defending state champion.
