NEWPORT BEACH — The Newport Beach Sister City Assn. wants to send 25 representatives from the city on a trip to Japan.
Every other year, delegates from Newport Beach make a 10-day visit to the Asian nation.
During the trip, which will begin March 31 and end April 10, the representatives will be special guests at the Cherry Blossom festival in Okazaki, which is Newport Beach’s sister city.
“Our sister city rolls out the red carpet,” said Jolyn Wayne-Yamada, spokeswoman for the organization. “It is just beautiful.”
The delegates will also visit Tokyo, Hakone Hot Springs near Mt. Fuji and the historic city of Kyoto. Volunteers must cover all their own expenses during the trip. Sister City officials estimate the total expense of the trip, including transportation and hotels, will be about $1,900 per person.
