Special Police Unit

Re “Pros and Cons of Police Squad Debated,” Feb. 27: The LAPD’s Special Investigations Section is not only critically needed by the law-abiding citizens of the city, it should even be beefed up. More officers should be trained and assigned to this very special unit.
Violence is an everyday event in this city. Most of the time the perpetrators are never apprehended. If arrested, almost always they get acquitted, thanks to the criminal justice system.
Personally, I feel safer with abusive, trigger-happy, reckless urban cowboys, etc., men in uniform, than to be victimized, mugged, beaten-up, shot at, etc., by a person or persons I will never be able to identify.
At least I can identify the cops, hire an attorney, sue the city and become a millionaire. I can never have this option against the criminals.
More power to the LAPD. And more officers to SIS.
