A 16-year-old Oxnard youth was in custody at Ventura County’s juvenile hall Friday after leading California Highway Patrol officers on a high-speed chase through west Oxnard.
The youth, whose name was not released because of his age, reportedly sped off when an officer tried to pull him over about 9:45 p.m. Thursday on suspicion of driving under the influence, said Officer Dave Cockrill, a CHP spokesman in Ventura.
The youth reportedly headed down Victoria Avenue at speeds approaching 90 mph, and turned northbound onto 5th Street.
He then turned into a mobile home park west of Harbor Boulevard, where he was cornered by officers, Cockrill said.
He was booked on suspicion of stealing a car, driving under the influence of controlled substances and possession of marijuana.
