Titans’ Williams Is Eligible for Softball This Season

The eligibility of Cal State Fullerton softball player Julie Williams has been approved for this season, Coach Judi Garman said Tuesday.
Williams, a shortstop who has played regularly the last two seasons, was held out of the season-opening doubleheader against Stanford Sunday until her eligibility could be confirmed by the university petition committee. Credit for a class she had taken had not been recorded, Garman said.

The Piranhas of the Arena Football League will open their 14-game schedule May 3 against the New Jersey Red Dogs at the Pond, the club announced.
The Piranhas’ 1997 schedule:
April 19--vs. Texas (preseason); April 26--at Portland (preseason). May 3--New Jersey; May 10--at San Jose; May 16--at Arizona; May 24--vs. Florida; May 31--at Iowa. June 6--at Milwaukee; June 14--vs. Nashville; June 20--at Orlando; June 27--vs. Portland. July 5--vs. San Jose; July 11--at Tampa Bay; July 18--vs. Arizona; July 26--vs. Milwaukee. Aug. 1--at Texas.
