Immigrant’s Son Offers Court View

Murder, rape, robbery, battery, fraud, the sales and use of illegal drugs, gang-related activities, the rise in violent youthful offenders: Are these some of the crimes that Terry Doherty believes to be changing society in general (Letters, Jan. 12)?
If so, as an attorney in California and a son of a recent immigrant, I suggest Doherty and his friends take some time to get off their soapbox, bashing immigrants, and spend it at the criminal courthouse.
I believe you will find that just as many U.S.-born citizens are helping the immigrants at changing the “good old days” for good old boys.
Crimes are more closely related to the lack of jobs and educational opportunities than how many generations one has lived in this country.
