Man Receives Year in Jail in Support Case

A man described by the district attorney’s office as one of Ventura County’s most wanted deadbeat dads was sentenced Wednesday to one year and one day in jail for failing to pay child and spousal support.
Larry Lee Roberts, 48, formerly of Camarillo, owed more than $290,000 in back support to his wife and three children in Newbury Park, according to prosecutors.
A judge sentenced Roberts in 1995 to a year in jail after he was convicted of a misdemeanor charge of failing to pay support.
After his release from jail, he moved to Colorado, but prosecutors continued to monitor him. When Roberts missed three $1,300 payments, he was arrested in Denver on Feb. 8, 1996, waived extradition and was returned to Ventura County a week later.
After the second offense, he was charged with a felony.
Roberts was sentenced by Municipal Judge Thomas J. Hutchins to the maximum term allowed for the charges.
