Coleman’s Shooting Leads Texas

Al Coleman scored 32 points and made a school-record 10 of No. 22 Texas’ school-record 18 three-point shots Sunday as the Longhorns defeated Kansas State, 104-63, in a Big 12 Conference game at Austin, Texas.
Coleman, a senior making his first career start, was 10 for 14 from three-point range and made his 10th three-point shot with 1:04 left in the game before leaving to a standing ovation.
Kansas State, 7-5 overall and 0-2 in the Big 12, was eight for 31 (25%) from the field in the first half, and Texas (8-4, 2-1) capitalized in transition as Coleman made four of five three-pointers to help build a 45-24 lead.
No. 19 Maryland 68, NC State 59--Maryland improved to its best Atlantic Coast Conference start in 22 seasons, getting a spark from reserve Matt Kovarik during a crucial second-half run to hold off the Wolfpack (8-4, 0-3) at Raleigh, N.C.
The Terrapins (14-1, 4-0), with their best 15-game start in school history, moved into a first-place ACC tie with Wake Forest with their 10th victory over the Wolfpack in the last 11 meetings.
Trailing, 42-41, Kovarik started Maryland’s decisive 11-1 spurt with a bank shot. He then assisted on Obinna Ekezie’s dunk and Keith Booth’s three-point play.

Seldon Jefferson scored 23 points as West Virginia defeated St. John’s, 90-77, in a Big East Conference game at New York. Damian Owens and Adrian Pledger each added 18 points for the Mountaineers (9-3, 3-2). Felipe Lopez led St. John’s (7-6, 3-3) with 30 points. . . . Ace Custis scored 16 points as Virginia Tech (7-6, 2-2) defeated Massachusetts (6-9, 1-2) , 63-47, in Atlantic-10 action at Amherst, Mass. . . . Marcus Saxon made two free throws with four seconds left to lift Utah State (10-4, 3-0) to a 55-52 Big West victory over Idaho (7-8, 0-2). . . . Sunday Adebayo scored 19 points and grabbed 13 rebounds as Memphis (8-7, 2-1) defeated Marquette (11-3, 2-1), 54-47, in Conference USA action at Memphis, Tenn.
College Basketball Notes
Providence’s Abdul Brown, a seldom-used junior college transfer charged with shoplifting last fall, has been suspended indefinitely, Coach Pete Gillen said.
