PASS THE TOSTITOS AND KEEP QUIET

Brigham Young, whose former basketball coach berated a Mormon recruit for betraying his church by signing with Duke, is now responsible for the Western Athletic Conference whine over not getting an alliance bowl berth.

The great Tostitos boycott was enacted in Provo because the Fiesta Bowl, which bypassed BYU, is sponsored by the tortilla chip’s company. Presumably, BYU supporters have been dipping into their salsa with English muffins.

Now, after defeating Kansas State in the Cotton Bowl, Cougar faithful are playing the we-told-you-so game.

Munch on this: In the regular season, BYU beat three teams better than 6-5: Rice (7-4), a 70-7 loser to Ohio State; Utah (8-4), a 38-10 loser to Wisconsin in the Copper Bowl; and Wyoming (10-2), which played no one.

Bottom line: Cougars should schedule better nonconference foes and boycott products of true significance: Poulan weed eaters.
