Bicentennial: When Father Fermin Lasuen built the San Fernando Mission in 1797, little did he know he was laying the foundation for the San Fernando Valley. Now home to 1.5 million people, the Valley will celebrate its 200th anniversary on Sept. 8, the day Lasuen inaugurated the mission, which today is undergoing a restoration, above. . . .
