Psychiatrists Hired in Infant’s Killing

Lawyers for two teenagers charged with murder in the death of a newborn have hired two forensic psychiatrists, raising the possibility they may use mental illness as a defense. Amy Grossberg and Brian Peterson Jr., both 18, are charged with first-degree murder. A baby boy born in a Newark motel last week was found dead in a trash bin. Prosecutors say they will seek the death penalty. Delaware law has several mental illness defenses, including not guilty by reason of insanity and guilty but mentally ill.
