The Southern Section football playoffs begin tonight, the City Section Friday. Some interesting facts:
* Loyola, which is host to Eisenhower at Pierce College on Friday, won its 500th game last week. Only six schools in the state have won more games.
* Arroyo, the top-seeded team in the Southern Section’s Division VI, held the same position last year and was the only top-seeded team not to win at least one game.
* Three Southern Section divisions have only four leagues each. As a result, fielding 16-team brackets for the playoffs was difficult and may explain why there are 12 teams with losing records.
* Corona Centennial opened seven years ago and is already a football power. The school finished 9-1 and is the Southern Section’s top-seeded team in Division IV.
* Ten teams begin the playoffs without a loss or tie.
