Teen Driver May Face Manslaughter Charge

A 17-year-old Camarillo boy may be charged with vehicular manslaughter in the death of a 46-year-old Oxnard farm worker Tuesday evening.

The farm worker, Manuel Zambrano Sandoval, was driving a pesticide truck north on Rice Avenue when his vehicle was clipped by a car driven by the teenager going in the same direction, said Dave Cockrill of the California Highway Patrol.

The roofless truck flipped over, ejecting Sandoval, Cockrill said. He was taken to St. John’s Regional Medical Center in Oxnard, where he died a short time later.

The teenager, who was treated for minor injuries and released, appeared to have been driving too fast, Cockrill said. His name was not released by authorities because of his age.
