Brethren Christian Comes Up Short

CERRITOS — Cerritos Valley Christian scored two second-half touchdowns to pull away with a 28-14 victory over visiting Brethren Christian Friday in front of 3,000 in Cerritos.
Adrian Castillo of Brethren Christian (3-3, 1-1) rushed for 122 yards and one touchdown in 23 carries. Castillo’s only touchdown came in the first quarter on a 44-yard run to give the Warriors a 7-0 lead.
Valley Christian (4-3, 1-1) scored two touchdowns in the second quarter, one on a 53-yard pass from Kirk Saarloos to Mark Garciano and the other on a nine-yard run by Mark Garciano. The Warriors’ Dan Muilenburg tied the score with a one-yard touchdown run before halftime.
Valley Christian’s Mark Garciano rushed for 153 yards and two touchdowns in 23 carries. The Crusaders’ Scott Jones scored on a seven-yard run in the third quarter which proved to be the game winner.
Garciano added some insurance in the fourth quarter with his second touchdown on a 13-yard run.
