Community March Is a Call for Peace
- Share via
Urging an end to the gang-related violence that has tormented this town, residents on Saturday will join together in Oxnard’s first-ever March for Peace.
Sponsored by the group Community for Unity, the event is described as “the first step to take back our community.”
Already this year, Oxnard has logged 17 homicides, a dozen of them tied to gangs.
The morning-long community gathering will include:
* the creation of a community altar with flowers and candles, at 8 a.m.;
* an Aztec ceremony and dance at 9 a.m.;
* the peace march, which starts at 10 a.m., and
* a bilingual community forum and debate at 11 a.m.
The day’s events will take place at Oxnard Community Center, 800 Hobson Way.
