Is Your Child Ready

Questions parents need to ask themselves before allowing children to be at home without supervision:

* Does my child want to stay home alone?

* Does my child defy my authority?

* Does my child communicate openly with me?

* Does my child have any medical condition that might make being home alone dangerous (such as asthma or epilepsy)?

* Is my house safe?

* Are firearms, drugs or alcohol available in my home?

* Is my neighborhood safe?

* Are their trusted neighbors, friends or relatives that can be called on?

* Can my child handle everyday problems as well as emergencies?
