Courthouse Inspected After Legionnaire’s Disease Case

State safety and health officials have begun a building maintenance inspection and other testing at the Torrance courthouse after a bailiff was found to have legionnaire’s disease.
But Rick Rice of the California Division of Occupational Safety and Health said Friday that an inspection of the five-story structure has so far turned up no evidence. A report will be issued next week. “At this point, it is unlikely, based on what we know, that the building is a source of legionnaire’s disease,” Rice said.
Dr. Shirley Fannin said the county office had no indication that an inspection of the courthouse was even warranted.
Fannin said the doctor who diagnosed the bailiff’s disease used a test that, by itself, is inconclusive.
