A 20-year-old Oxnard man was listed in serious condition Friday after being shot once in the chest in the city’s second drive-by shooting in the last three days. Manuel Manriquez was walking on the 1500 block of East 1st Street in the La Colonia neighborhood just past midnight when he was shot, an Oxnard police spokesman said. Manriquez was taken to St. John’s Regional Medical Center, where he was listed in serious but stable condition.
Police have not determined a motive nor identified any suspects in the shooting. There was a drive-by shooting Wednesday night at an apartment complex on Channel Islands Boulevard that left two youths injured, one in serious condition. Police said a 16-year-old boy, who was struck in the lower back, may be paralyzed.
Several ministers in the community met this week to discuss the recent wave of crime, said the Rev. Larry Tyler-Wayman.
“We’re concerned about the escalating violence,” he said.
