Dole’s Campaign

Re “Dole Raises Disability Issue for All to See,” July 8:
To claim that Bob Dole, by overcoming his physical disability, is automatically filled with the wisdom and judgment necessary to be president is like comparing apples to oranges. Becoming physically self-reliant is admirable but hardly the criterion for my vote.

* What a refreshing Column Right by Cal Thomas, “No Salvation in Politics, Dole Proves” (July 4). While Americans are bombarded with the same old campaign rhetoric by a rowdy bunch of scofflaw politicians, Thomas states, “When faced with the diseases of the soul, the last place to look for treatment is in politics.” A resounding “amen” to that.
Americans must become more involved on an individual basis and not look to such improbable role models as self-seeking politicians to solve our social and moral problems. It will take both dedication and sacrifice to mend the sadly tattered fabric of a needy society. But we can do it!
