The Sylmar / San Fernando Transit and Child Care Center will open June 28 for commuters and others with a need for child day-care services.
The $1.2-million center, located near the Sylmar / San Fernando MetroLink Station, will offer preschool classes and can accommodate 70 youngsters, said Desiree Portillo-Rabinov, the MTA’s project manager for the San Fernando Valley area.
The center’s services will be available to families in the community even if they do not commute from the station, officials said, but commuters will be offered transit subsidies providing discounts on day-care tuition or transit passes. The facility will be open to children 6 weeks to 5 years old. Weekly rates will range from $90 to $130, depending on the age of the child.
