Re “Hospital Sale Debate Creates Ill Will in Tennessee Town,” March 25: Whatever one may think of managed care and large corporate-run hospitals, the people of Cookeville, Tenn., deserve a lot of credit for their energetic efforts to try to preserve an important public service in their community. I have followed this debate at a distance for a couple of years now and have been quite impressed.
From the perspective of someone who lives in a state, county and city where most people seem to be concerned only with how to cut taxes and eliminate important public services, I have to say the interest and involvement of the Cookeville residents look pretty good.
